Wendy began borrowing money everywhere, telling everyone he was going on a treasure hunt. When Kit heard about this, he secretly entered Wendy's house, found Daechir, and angrily asked, "Crazy woman, why didn't you tell me about the treasure when you were at my house?"
"I did, but your father didn't believe me at all. What could I do?"
"Then take me with you. I want to get rich too."
"You go discuss it with Wendy. I can't make that decision."
Kit thought to himself, "I just had a fight with him. There's no way that kid will agree." He hardened his heart, grabbed the head, and ran out. Just as Daechir was about to shout, her mouth was covered. That afternoon, Kit left with her from southwestern Africa, embarking on a thousand-mile treasure hunt. "Are you leaving without taking anything?" Daechir asked with some concern.
"Crazy woman, I don't have time to prepare. If I stay any longer, I won't be able to leave." He hailed a taxi and headed for Walvis Bay Airport. Half an hour later, he finally arrived at his destination. After paying the fare, he was left with a pitiful two hundred and forty-five Star Coins. This amount was by no means enough to get to Ethiopia. In the end, he decided to go to Lucapa first, having heard that it was easier to make money there, and he could work to earn his travel expenses. Daechir was stuffed into a bag and didn't dare to speak a word along the way for fear of scaring people. Upon arriving in Lucapa and getting off the plane, Kit began to regret his decision. This was his first time traveling far from home, and he had done it without his family's knowledge. Standing at the airport exit, watching people come and go in a hurry, he felt an unprecedented loneliness, unsure of what to do next. He stood there for more than twenty minutes before finally moving, walking aimlessly forward. As the sky gradually darkened, he lowered his head and asked the head, "Hey! What do we do now?"
In a foreign land, Daechir now seemed exceptionally dear to him. He no longer called her "crazy woman," but a more affectionate term wouldn't come out, so he settled on "Hey."
"Are you talking to me?"
"Yes, you're the only one I know in this city." Kit was thirteen years old, and Daechir understood him well. If she didn't help, he would never make it to Eagle's Nest.
"How many Star Coins do you have left?"
"Sixty-two," Kit replied after glancing at his Nine-Star Card. "First, find a cheap hotel. We'll look for a job tomorrow."
After walking about six hundred meters, a hotel appeared ahead. Kit timidly walked in. "Excuse me, are there any rooms available?" he asked.
"Are you alone? Why isn't a parent with you?" The question came from a woman in her forties.
The hotel was small, run by a husband and wife. To gain sympathy, Kit lied pitifully, "My parents are both dead." Although his father had recently passed away, his mother was still alive and kicking, as strong as an ox. The landlady was a kind woman. Hearing that his parents were dead, she immediately waived his rent and gave him a corncake. His stomach was growling, so he took a big bite. After eating, Kit's attitude changed. It turned out that playing the victim could earn him care from others. He decided to continue the act, making his life story more and more tragic. His father died when he was three, his house burned down when he was five, he was begging on the streets by seven, and was finally taken in by a kind person, but that kind person also passed away, forcing him to wander until now. The kind woman shed many tears with him. Her twelve-year-old daughter, however, asked, "You don't seem sad at all when you talk about your family's death. It feels like you're lying."
"I'm not! It's because I've been hurt so deeply that my heart has turned to stone."
Hiding in the backpack, Daechir almost burst out laughing. She held it in with all her might to avoid giving herself away. The next day, Kit slept until noon. The woman came to wake him, and he lazily got up, brushed his teeth, and walked straight to the dining table. "What's for breakfast?"
The little girl said angrily, "You brat, who do you think you are? This isn't your home. If you want to eat, you have to work."
Kit glanced at her. "You have to eat to have strength, right?"
The woman brought him a corncake. "This again?" Kit couldn't help but complain.
The little girl's face flushed with anger. She snatched the cake away and snapped, "If you're not going to eat, get out! We're not keeping you here."
"Sonita, don't treat our guest like that!" the woman intervened.
"He hasn't paid any rent. He's not our guest, he's a freeloader." Kit held his tongue and ate the cake in his hand. The hotel was located in a small town near the airport. It only had six rooms and was rarely full, but this time, surprisingly, several groups of guests arrived, and all six rooms were filled at once. Kit had been staying in one of them, but now he was homeless. The woman had no choice but to put him in her daughter's room. The two teenagers were extremely awkward. Kit tried to make conversation. "Do you want to get rich?" Sonita was lying on her small bed, pretending to read a book. Hearing this, she looked up and asked with a contemptuous tone, "With your help?"
"What? You don't believe me?" Sonita rolled her eyes at him, not wanting to talk, and went back to her book. Kit grew anxious and pulled the head out of his backpack. "Look, this is my family's treasure. It knows everything." The little girl's interest was piqued. She got off the bed and walked barefoot to the table. "What is this thing? It looks a little disgusting," she asked.
"Don't talk nonsense, the crazy woman will get angry."
"This thing is called 'crazy woman'?" the little girl asked with a silly laugh.
Daechir suddenly opened her one eye and asked, "What do you want with me?" Sonita took a step back in fright, pointing at the head. "How can it talk?"
"Don't be afraid. She's an obedient robot. She won't bite."
"Can you really find treasure?" Sonita asked, mustering her courage.
Daechir thought to herself that with one more person, the chances of getting back to Eagle's Nest would be greater. She immediately decided to recruit her and made up a story on the spot, "My former master was a very wealthy man. Before he died, he buried all his treasure in a cave. As long as you can help me restore my body, I can find it."
"Then why don't you just tell us the location of the treasure? We can go get it ourselves," Sonita asked. Daechir was taken aback. This girl was much smarter than Kit, able to spot the loophole. Fortunately, she had already prepared a response. "The treasure is buried in a very deep passage. The air is thin inside, making it very difficult for humans to pass through."
"If it's so difficult to pass through, who buried it?" Sonita pressed, getting to the bottom of the matter. "I was created specifically to bury the treasure." Sonita finally nodded, her doubts dispelled. "Well? Want to go together?" Kit asked eagerly.
"I have to ask my mom and dad first."
"Will they believe what you say?"
"As long as it's the truth, they will definitely believe me," Sonita replied.
